Week 4 – Mice entry points – removing the stone façade

February 27 – March 3

And the moment I’ve been waiting for!! I’ve said all along that I was 99% sure that the mice were coming in under the stone façade on the front of the house. The façade looks nice, but is pulling away from the house, so there is space to get under and between the stone and the plywood. So here goes…

And I was correct! Not sure if I should feel proud of the fact that I figured it out, or if I should just be annoyed that they found multiple ways in!

The mice had chewed larger holes all around the electrical boxes to be able to get into the house, as well as found/created a few other points of entry!

It’s actually pretty amazing the damage they have done. The holes are where I expected them to be at the front of the house by the kitchen...

As well as along the chimney where the bricks meet the siding...

And especially where the hydro meter is connected to the house.

This week there were multiple teams at the house, so during the time the crew was doing the outside demolition, there was still a lot of work going on inside.

The basement LVL was put in place with a custom brace to be able to remove the post.

Check out this video that The Conscious Builder did to explain how they accomplished this!

Amazing difference with the post gone!

And now the sad part... demolition of the gazebo :(

Unfortunately, the gazebo was starting to fall apart, and there was significant rot that was visible.

However, it was also the best option to remove it to be able to take off the old siding, add the additional Adhero barrier and Rockwool on the exterior, and put on new siding.

But I know at some point it will be rebuilt bigger and even better!!
