Day 1 of Construction! February 6, 2023

It's amazing how much gets done by a crew that knows what they are doing, rather than me figuring it out as I go along!

Here is what all happened on the first day...

First, floor protection is down, and divider between the main floor and basement.

The far left side was where shelves were... this is going to be the new door between the main house and the basement family room area, instead of in the middle of the room. You can also see here the foundation for the fireplace on the main floor, which will need to be removed to have room for the door. I am excited to have this removed as part of the first phase of renovations, since it will really open up space on the main floor, too.

The old ducts are mostly gone, as there will be new heating and cooling when this is all done. Can't wait to see what the basement will look like minus the first post! The middle post will be hidden inside a wall, and the post at the back will remain in place.

Oh, and piano pieces underneath!! It was a beast!

As you can see, mouse damage was everywhere. I'm so happy to be getting fresh and clean new insulation and for the house to be fully sealed to keep mice out.

I had wondered whether there was moisture damage or possibly carpenter ant damage, and it looks like there was some of both.

And this is just the beginning!
