There are a few key areas of the house that I am looking forward to seeing changes to - that I think will really make a significant difference.
The first of this being the removal of the fireplace from the main floor. I believe this was an old wood fireplace that was converted into an electric fireplace that I never felt was safe enough to use!
The main floor renovation isn't part of this phase (unfortunately), but the fireplace has to be removed to be able to remove the base of it, which currently blocks where the new doorway between the main area of the house, and the new family suite area is.
The preparation to remove the fireplace has begun...

The hallway below has been cleared of the shelving units on both sides of the wall, and now the base of the fireplace is visible from both sides. And yes, that is my old oil-fueled hot water tank that is waiting to go outside!

The large fireplace inside the basement suite along the outside basement wall has also been removed - it's amazing how much visual (and physical) space this took up. You can see how large the hearth was. And yes... this is a different fireplace than the one above!

The bathroom walls have all come down since the bathroom will be reconfigured, and the door will be relocated to the other side of the basement to enter from inside the suite.

You can see the base of the fireplace in this view - full height as it supports the fireplace on the main floor.

And yes, the insulation was mostly useless after the amount of damage done by the mice. :(

And a full bin by the end of the first two days!
