The Energy Audit
Getting an energy audit is the first step in accessing any of these grants. I was fortunate to learn about the Smart Net Coalition (formerly SMARTNet Alliance), a group based in Ottawa that was hosting virtual webinars throughout the pandemic on a number of topics, including heat pumps and energy retrofits. One of the companies that was recommended for energy audits was Homesol, and in particular Stephen Magneron. I was impressed by the guidance Stephen provided, as well as how thorough the report was. In seeing energy audit reports from friends, his report was much more informative and in depth than others I have seen, and I would highly recommend Homesol and Stephen for anyone looking to start their retrofit planning.
My Energy Audit Results
As you can see below, there are a lot of opportunities for me to increase the energy efficiency of my house. The goal is to get as close to net zero as I can afford!
